Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Graduate Assistant supports recruitment and retention efforts of the B.S. in Biocomputational Engineering program at Shady Grove, including:
- Provide support for recruiting events at the Universities at Shady Grove campus, such as Open Houses and Information Sessions.
- Visit area community colleges on average every other week and participate in tabling events and recruitment fairs to interact with prospective BCE students.
- Deliver information sessions, both virtually and in-person, to prospective students.
- Participate in recruitment and outreach events at College Park, such as Maryland Day, Open Houses, WIE and CMSE events, and LTSC STEM events.
- Assist in creating promotional materials, such as websites, flyers, and social media posts.
- Lead initiatives to promote community building within the BCE program and mentorship between senior and junior students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, enrollment as a University of Maryland graduate student.
Preferences:
Student affairs or recruitment experience, which could include a leadership role in a student organization, orientation assistant, tour guide, resident assistant, etc.
Additional Information:
The GA must be able to travel to the Shady Grove campus (located in Rockville, MD) at least once a week and local community colleges as needed. Telework and work on the College Park campus can be incorporated into the GA’s work schedule. Work is flexible during normal business hours around the GA’s course schedule.
